These photographs are a selection from a larger series of 75 prints
titled "From Under a Summer Garden", which I completed in the summer of
2000. They were inspired by observations in passing, as I rode my bike,
or walked across campus on my way to and from my darkroom. They were
all taken with a 4" x 5" pinhole camera that I loaded with black and
white film. The perspectives were low, and often under a canopy of
garden growth. Exposures were long, and the depth of field extensive. I
printed them on 16"x20" mat finished paper, and hand-painted them in the
accumulative colors of all the summer memories that are planted in my
mind.
